When both cost and accuracy are major considerations for OEMs of weighing equipment, then the 800 Series of cantilever beam load cells from Richmond Industries are the perfect solution.

These low-capacity single-point load cells are an ideal choice for manufacturers looking for cost-effective designs in competitive markets, such as low-cost bench scales for the retail sector, parts counting and even coin-counting machinery. However, these low-cost and easy-to-apply sensors are equally applicable to any low-capacity force measurement tasks in machine design and process engineering.

Standard ranges are available between 0-50N and 0-1kN, and all devices promise maximum combined error of nonlinearity and hysteresis of 0.1% of full range output. To ease integration, all devices feature the same mechanical outline, regardless of capacity, with a low 25.4mm profile design. Devices come as standard configured with sense wires in the form of an integral 2m-long cable, and this provides ample flexibility in connection to the measurement electronics, including the nominal 10V excitation supply, which can range as high as 15V, enabling integration with 12V systems. Output sensitivity is 2.0mV/V +/-10%.

Reliability is assured by generous overload protection for such low-cost devices. All 800 Series load cells will tolerate overloads of at least 150% without loss of calibration, and can even survive a 200% overload (minimum) without physical damage. The operating temperature range is similarly generous, with temperature compensated operation guaranteed from -10 to +40C within an overall operating temperature range from -20 to +70C.
