Sometimes the key to satisfying an application is the additional service that can be added to an off-the-shelf product. And one such instance came when a manufacturer of agricultural machinery was looking for a human-machine interface for a hay-baling machine.

The manufacturer needed a CANbus interface with a bright and easy-to-read display that would make it easy for the tractor operator to visualise the status of the CANbus system controlling the baling machine. And it also had to be easy for the operator to make adjustments to keep the vehicle running constantly. What’s more, the manufacturer wanted the display unit to be styled to reflect its own corporate identity.

While the brief might have suggested a totally bespoke operator interface panel, Sensor-Technik knew that the Graf-Syteco AT3 CANbus HMI had all the functions required for this application. It is freely programmable and features a large bright graphical display with easy to operate programmable controls.

Having repackaged the unit in the equipment manufacturer’s own bespoke housing, Sensor-Technik programmed the display to show all the relevant CANbus signals and programmed the controls to enable all the necessary operator interventions. The program was written in standard Graf C software and the images for the display were uploaded in standard JPEG format.

As a result, with relatively simple modifications to a standard product, the customer received a piece of hardware that was unique in its mechanical style and provided all the functionality required.
