ESX-IOX CANbus I/O Module
Sensor-Technik now offers a low-cost I/O module for mobile applications. The ESX-IOX can handle up to 28 input or output lines, and comes complete with reverse-polarity and overvoltage protection in a compact plastic package.
The ESX-IOX is a versatile I/O module based on a powerful microcontroller that can handle a wide range of input types. Options include: up to 20 digital inputs, up to two rotational frequency inputs, up to six 0-10V inputs, up to 12 higher-voltage inputs (0-40V), as many as four pulsewidth modulated outputs, up to eight digital outputs, up to four low-side digital outputs, and a regulated 10V sensor supply output.
Importantly for vehicle sensor network applications, the I/O module is fully CAN 2.0B compliant, with additional communication options via CANopen. The unit also operates from a wide 9-32V DC supply, and so can run on all common vehicle battery supplies. Current consumption is typically only 100mA with no load, and can be reduced to less than 1.5mA on standby. Absolute maximum current rating is 11A.
Despite its low cost, the ESX-IOX is a ruggedly constructed unit. Its compact (177 x 135 x 36mm) housing is rated IP67 for ingress, and the whole assembly is CE compliant to all relevant automotive, agricultural and construction industry standards for EMC, shock and vibration.
All electrical connections are via a single 42-pin Tyco automotive-grade connector as used on several other devices in the Sensor-Technik ESX family.
