The IVDMS strain measurement sensor from Sensor-Technik is an ideal tool for monitoring the stresses imposed on structures and machines. This revolutionary sensor is so simple to apply that it brings easy strain measurement to applications where the task was previously thought too difficult.
The IVDMS comes as a single sealed component that is simply glued and bolted onto the structure to be monitored. No complex mounting brackets are required, and there is no need to modify the structure in order to monitor the strains imposed on it. The output comes in the form of a standard 4-20mA current signal, and a CANbus interface is provided to enable setup and calibration.
The IVDMS sensor is calibrated as standard to measure deflections over a +/-2200um/m range, producing highly accurate readings with linearity of better than 0.5% of full scale and repeatability of better than 0.5% of full scale from sensor to sensor. This means that setups requiring multiple measurement points can be installed with no need for additional signal conditioning.
Housed in a rugged anodised aluminium enclosure measuring just 60 x 45 x 20mm, the IVDMS strain measurement sensor can be applied to measure strain in just about any application and any environment. When mounted in the prescribed manner, all onboard electronics are protected to an IP65 ingress rating, and the device is rated for a wide -25 to +85C operating temperature range. As a result, the IVDMS is suitable for use without modification outdoors in all weathers and in the hostile environment of processing plants.
All electrical (and CANbus) signals are carried via a captive 1m-long cable, and the IVDMS runs from a wide 8-32V DC power supply, further simplifying its application as a retrofit strain-measurement device for structural monitoring in buildings and bridges or in fixed and mobile machinery such as cranes and elevators.
