NGS1

The NGS1 sensor from Sensor-Technik is a novel subsystem that can greatly enhance the safety of any off-highway or agricultural vehicle. The device combines gyroscopic and inclinometer sensors to measure angular velocity and inclination in three axes. These measurements are available as CANbus outputs for easy interfacing with a vehicle’s CANbus controller, providing early warning of instability and avoiding the dangers of vehicles tipping over in uneven terrain.

The gyroscope has a measurement range of +/-50deg/s with a resolution of 0.6deg/s. The inclinometer (effectively an accelerometer) measures between +/-90deg and can be specified for +/-2 or +/-6g. Resolution is 0.01deg or 0.2mg. Outputs from both sensors are optionally available as 4-20mA or 0-10V analogue outputs.

As might be expected for the off-highway environment, the NGS1 sensor comes in a rugged die-cast aluminium housing measuring 78 x 78 x 34.4mm that is sealed to IP67. All outputs are provided via a standard 24-pin automotive-capable connector with a captive locking mechanism to ensure the integrity of the connection. The device runs from a wide power supply range from 9 to 36V DC, and so can run from all standard automotive battery systems with a low current drain, typically 120mA at 12V.

The ruggedly constructed sensor assembly is fully CE conformant, complying with all relevant automotive, agricultural and construction industry standards for EMC, mechanical integrity and climatic conditions.
